My Thought Process Behind Forest Elves
Once I started my third trimester in pregnancy, a lot of friends asked if I was going to have a maternity photoshoot before our baby’s arrival. I had thought about it briefly, but I did not have the urge or motivation to purchase expensive maternity dresses or outfits that I would only wear once and never touch again. Also, the thought of paying thousands of dollars for a high end photographer was the last thing on my 8th month pregnant mind. My belly was huge, and the constant feeling of exhaustion while suffering from daily pregnancy symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, swelling, etc was increasingly brutal as my pregnancy was nearing the end.
Knowing that I did not want a fancy maternity shoot, I started to think about a cosplay maternity shoot for myself. I loved cosplay, and the thought of putting the two together really gave me the motivation and excitement to do at least a small photoshoot towards the end of my pregnancy.
In my third trimester, I had just finished rewatching the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as The Witcher, season 2. I decided from those two shows, my husband and I would dress as forest elves for our maternity shoot.

Putting Everything Together
The actual putting together and hand sewing of the costume is very minimal. And being 8 months pregnant, that made my life so much easier. I had first hand sewed the buttons from the faux fur onto the hood of the cloaks. Then, I cut off green ribbon on the cloaks and sewed the leaf hooks on in place of them. And that was pretty much it. Very simple and definitely manageable for any pregnant woman. 🙂
