Who is Bowsette and Where Did She Come From?

Bowsette is a fan created character, which represents the combination of Princess Peach and Bowser from the famous Mario Series.  In September 2018, Nintendo Direct presented a trailer for the game New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.  In that trailer, they released news that Toadette would be a playable character in the upcoming new game.  They also introduced the latest Power Up called the Super Crown.  If Toadette touched the Super Crown, she would be transformed into Peachette, who was a Peach Princess duplicate but with Toadette influenced clothing.

From there, a Malaysian artist by the username Ayyk92 posted on Twitter a comic he created of Bowser getting ahold of the Super Crown.  Thus, Bowsette was created!  The internet gobbled it up quick!  From different cosplays to various fan art, she soon became a very well known and loved character.

What I Loved Most

The great thing about Bowsette is all the different variations of her.  Because she originated as fan art, many other artists have also drawn their version of Bowsette.  And same with cosplayers; there are so many different adaptation of Bowsette, you can really make her your own.

Because she is so versatile, you can cosplay her with ease! Mainly using things you already have in your closet.

The Things I Made

I made four items for this cosplay, which include: the crown, the horns, the spikes on the Shell Backpack, and the setting for the blue gem in the center of her outfit.

Crown and Horns

The golden crown itself is made up of Worbla.  For anyone starting out in cosplay, Worbla is a great material to get use to.  It is often used to create props in many cosplay costumes.  Worbla is a non-toxic thermolplastic and can be easily manipulated into any shape when heated up.

I simply traced my crown shape onto the Worbla, cut out other detail I wanted on my crown, heated them up together and smoothed them down into the final shape I desired.  Once the Warbla hardened and dried, I use Foam Sheets to create the pink mushroom inside the crown and the two white horns.

Once I finished with the crown and horns, I attached everything to a simple headband.  I chose a metal headband with teeth, since those generally are able to shape well with any size head and also stay on securely.

Spikes on the Shell Backpack

The Koopa Backpack itself, I purchased.  Just like the horns, the spikes are also made from Foam Sheets.  I cut the white foam sheet into a point and glued that down to an orange foam sheet, then glued the finished spike onto the backpack.  Since my spikes came out somewhat larger, the spikes seemed quite flimsy.  And because I was going to wear this cosplay to a crowded event, I added white duck-tap to my spikes for extra durability.

Setting for the Gem

The setting for the gem located in the top center of my bodysuit was also made from Worbla.  I cut several layers of the shape I wanted and heated them all together.  Them gem itself, I purchased off Amazon.

The Things I Bought

What Was Most Difficult?

This being a very simple cosplay, nothing in particular was difficult.  Though I will say the most tedious part was the crown.  Sculpting the perfect shape you want with Worbla and letting it cool can take some time.  But it is definitely not hard, and anyone can do it!  If you would rather not work with your hands or just do not have the time, Amazon sells the fully made crown.

Makeup

Putting on makeup is always my favorite part.  For a more in depth details about the brands I use for my makeup, check out my Cosplay Makeup Essentials post.  If you have any other questions about my makeup, please do not hesitate to send me a message down below!

Foundation

For my foundation, I’m currently using FIT me! from Maybelline shade number 128.  I have been using this foundation for quite some time now and this color fits my skin very well.  Starting with thin layers, gradually build up your foundation until you get that flawless finish you are looking for.  Do not be modest with it, I use a lot of foundation. 🙂

Eyes

With my eyes, I used a gold color for the base of my eyeshadow.  I carried that color throughout my full eyelid and under my eye as well.  I then went in with a black eyeshadow and concentrated it toward the outward most part of my eye.  I also put some on my lower lash line.  I used a liquid eyeliner next and made a very thick sharp wing.  I then highlighted the inner most part of my eye with white eye glitter.

Next, I used very dramatic false lashes and a few lower lashes from the center of my eye, outward.  Funny how large lashes always seem to cover up all your hard work!笑  And finally to top things off, light blue colored contacts to give your eyes that extra pop.

Blush

It might be hard to tell in these photos, but before putting on blush I taped one small heart on the sides of both my cheeks.  After applying a light blush and removing the tape, a cute small heart on each side remained.  I also went in with liquid eyeliner to make small hearts and dots under my eyes.

Lips

Lastly, I used a ruby red lip stick to fill in my lips.  I usually fill in my cupids bow to give a more full look to my lips.

Easy Cosplay Ideas for Beginners- Bowsette Edition: Final thoughts

Over all, this was a very short and sweet cosplay.  The whole project took me around 3 hours, and the majority of that time was used for making the crown.  The fact that I had most of these items already in my closet, made it super simply to whip up together in one evening.  Another great thing about this cosplay is the reusability of it all.  There is no real wasting money with this cosplay.  The body suit, the wig, the fishnets, the spiked choker set and boots I have worn on multiple occasions for other cosplays and even day to day.  Nothing better than saving money. 😉

Well there you have it!  A great easy cosplay for any level.  It is the perfect combination of sexy and cute (shout out to my Crazy Stupid Love Fans WooHoo!)  Always remember to have fun with it.  Try to get creative and make it your own.  Stress less about perfection and more about the personality you put into your cosplay.  Hope you liked my version of Bowsette cosplay.  Let me know any thoughts or questions you may have in the comments down below.
